Bitlings™ – Animal Robots to Love, Packaging Design

This packaging design project complimented the work of talented local artist, Rasterstache, who created a special edition range of 3D printed collectible toys to match the geometric styling of his robotic sculptures. The mystery boxes needed to entice someone to purchase the toy, not knowing which animal figure would be inside the packaging.

I was delighted when the artist responded so positively to my design pitch of creating a container that mimicked a paint can and the various toys featured in white being dripped on by their designated color. As anyone who collects mystery toys knows, the packaging is usually very loud and colorful. I quickly realized the easiest way to make them stand out on a shelf was to create the very opposite, and create something with a predominantly white design with pops of colors, that still had a fun creative flair. Much like the toys’ design, the packaging was clean and constructive and felt like something the determined demographic could admire or feel confident gifting.
